The Fairhaven Parking Taskforce is not just focused on
improving parking for vehicles, but will also focus to improve parking for
bicyclist.
In the Fairhaven Neighborhood Urban and Village Plan it is required that all new developments create sufficient bicycle parking with
changing and locker facilities.
The task force is exploring studies and proposals concerning
parking to assist them in applying parking management strategies in Fairhaven.
In phase 3 of the Transpo Study of 2011 recommendations made
to the task force is that they fix bike areas by improving the lighting on the streets, include
better access to developments and incorporate more local connections to connect
trails from adjacent neighborhoods.
The Fairhaven Neighborhood Plan update proposal of 2007, included recommendations to update bicycle lanes, implement bicycle bypass
signs and expand bicycle parking in the commercial area of Fairhaven.
Bike parking on Harris and 11th Avenue near
Tony’s Coffee House needs to be fixed and improved, said Paul James, secretary
of Fairhaven Neighbors Association and member of Fairhaven parking task force.
It would be nice if bike parking were in the Village Green Garden because many
bicyclists go through this area.
